The Al-Mubadarah Index: Aspriations of Global Arab Communities
In collaboration with Gallup
As 2011 is coming to be known as the year of the Arab Awakening, the world is watching to see which new direction this strategic geopolitical region will turn. Those within the Arab Diaspora hold a distinct role as spectators deeply connected to the events within countries in which they have cultural ties. Within these Diasporas there is an untapped financial resources, expertise and—perhaps of most vital importance—credibility vis-à-vis the Arab World. The Arab World is building its own future. As it seeks guidance from beyond its borders, Arab Diaspora communities must be recognized as the best suited and situated to provide leadership.
Rationale
There are an ample number of studies detailing the losses incurred in developing countries through the emigration of their most highly educated and trained professionals to other parts of the world in search of greater career advancement and financial prosperity. There is less known about how the talent and professional capital of these collective Diaspora can be harnessed back to the countries of their origin and the resulting benefits. Al-Mubadarah’s platform to engage the global Arab Diaspora pursues dynamic methods of engagement reaching out to Arabs around the world, creating a network of professionals geared towards building a just and sustainable future for their native countries. Research is the keystone to Al-Mubadarah’s platform and the ongoing, rigorous and necessary surveying is the primary manner that knowledge about these communities is being developed.
Scope
The initial Al-Mubadarah Index: Aspirations of Global Arab Communities is a powerful research tool that will create a baseline of data from which further surveys can emerge. In this initial survey, thousands of respondents in more than 15 countries, both within and outside of the Arab world, will be surveyed by Al-Mubadarah in collaboration with the leading global research firm Gallup to discover what binds them to the Arab World and what incentives will bring them to the table and contribute to the region’s development. With Al-Mubadarah’s credibility as facilitators of the global Arab community and Gallup’s research acumen, the survey will voice previously unrealized and unstated sentiments and aspirations for the Arab world. Respondents will represent broad sections of socioeconomic and demographic backgrounds.
